    • Abstract:
The article discusses the tendency for psychiatrists to lump individuals experiencing mania, or manic episodes, with individuals suffering from bipolar disease. Topics include the tendency for individuals with mania to not experience periods of depression as those with bipolar disorder do, debate regarding whether mania differs sufficiently from bipolar disorder in order to warrant a distinct diagnosis, and suggestions to define unipolar mania as a subtype of bipolar disorder to raise awareness.
