This article discusses whether of not varicella vaccine could be given to all children to prevent chickenpox. Healthy, unimmunized children who have not had varicella infection should be vaccinated on recommendation. Use of the vaccine in immunocompromised children is still being studies and has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The American Academy of Pediatrics, Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, and American Academy of Family Medicine all recommend vaccinating unimmunized children aged 12 months and older who have not had varicella infection, and not vaccinating children with cellular immunodeficiencies.
