    • Abstract:
The article presents information on the book "The Stories of Frank O'Connor," by Alfred A. Knopf. The major realities encompassing Ireland are poverty, ignorance, and drink. Yet from them there gushes an exciting existence which, even at its grimmest, is infused with a sense of wonder and beauty and sorrow. Obviously that very complex matter, the marvelous and terrible Irish temperament, has a great deal to do with this transformation, as have also the shifting colors, of sea and sky and land to which O'Connor is acutely responsive.
