    • Abstract:
The article presents information about an art exhibition of avant-garde paintings. These paintings are done by a young San Francisco clique whose somber, still nature abstractions are totally free of European influences. The painters' yawning canvases suggest a number of geographical references. San Francisco's position as jumping-off point to the Orient is suggested by effects reminiscent of Chinese painting-particularly by the washy, atmospheric color. These painters, however, are neither regionalists nor realists. They are, on the contrary, true non-objectivists-arch rebels against the self-confident act always present in European painting.
