The article reports on the claim by Dr. Michael J. Thomson of Texas A&M University that gene editing via clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) Cas9 technology can expedite plant improvements. Also cited are the improvements on the traits of Roundup Ready or glyphosate-tolerant cotton and soybeans using a transgenic method, and the ribonucleoprotein (RNP) delivery method to modify amino acids in corn using biolistics.
