    • Abstract:
It may have been the first the tourist had heard of Zen Buddhism; it will not have been the last. The fashion magazines exclaim over it as "spiritual dynanzite". The quarterlies note the noisy digging of it by the Beat Generation, and one of them, the Chicago Review, ran in a recent issue ten Zen essays and stories, a Zen poem and Zen drawings. The highwater mark of the tide thus far was reached this fall with the publication of two Zen books, each of which is championed by, a different faction of American Zen and regarded indignantly by the other faction.
