A biography of German author Günter Grass is presented. He was born October 16, 1927 in Danzig, Poland to a German father and Kashubian, or Slavic, mother. He was drafted into the German army in 1944 and was wounded and taken prisoner during World War II. Grass married Swiss ballerina Anna Schwarz in 1954 and began his literary career publishing novels, plays, and lyric poetry. He died on April 13, 2015. Major works include "The Tin Drum," "Headbirths," and "Crabwalk."
