    • Abstract:
The article focuses on consensus liberalism in the political system of the U.S. Its failure to assume the risks and the responsibilities of leadership are discussed. The recent campaigns amply illustrate that President Lyndon B. Johnson is a man graced with one of the most remarkable senses of political strategy in the annals of American history. But the administration under President Johnson is trying to move forward by walking in the opposite direction. It has held out the vision of the "great society" while refusing, at the same time, to reorder its economic thinking along lines consistent with its vision.
