      The article focuses on the outcome of the 2017 elections in France and Germany. Topics include voter turnout has not systematically declined over the last elections in France and Germany, compared to the French case, the German mainstream parties proved to be more resilient, but they both lost voters to new challengers as well and the party system's fragmentation equally reached unprecedented levels, and the rise of the centrist challenger and the importance of the associated chance events focused the electoral campaign on the race, and France also saw the rise of a new challenger from the left La France Insoumise political party.
