      The article explores the administration of intravenous fluids in the emergency room. Particular focus is given to how the an infusion of a bolus of isotonic crystalloid is a universal first line of treatment. Additional topics discussed include how administering fluids can result in hypotension, research regarding restrictive versus liberal fluid therapy and the treatment of adults with septic shock.
