- Abstract: The probability of blacks moving from the South has been directly related to years of school completed. Of those who leave, the most highly educated are the most likely to return. This and other evidence fails to support the hypothesis that return of the least capable migrants accounts for why southern-born blacks in the North earn more than northern-born blacks. Other implications are explored. The rate of black migration from the South appears to be declining at almost every educational level, and return migration seems to be rising at almost every educational level. The degree of selectivity of black outmigration and return migration did not appreciably change between the 1950's and the 1960's. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
