- Abstract:
The article focuses on the importance of free AIDS test and also cites a few cases where people got AIDS after infected blood transfusion. According to a case of Amy Sloan of Lafayette, Indiana, who had ulcerative colitis and during treatment in 1982, she received three units of blood that had not been screened for the AIDS virus as no tests had yet become available to detect AIDS antibodies. Three years later, in 1985 Amy experienced chest pains and breathing difficulty, similar to AIDS symptoms and when tests were conducted she gave a positive test for AIDS. News was even more shattering for her as she was pregnant.
