The article presents an interview with Beatrice Fihn, executive director of the International Committee Against Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). Among the issues she discussed include the panic caused by a false alert about incoming missiles in Hawaii on January 13, 2018 and of the same alert in Japan days later, her belief that the twin false alarms serve as a wake-up call to a nuclear-complacent world, and the devastating effect of nuclear testing.
