- Abstract:
In the wake of a strict new indecency policy launched on February 25, 2004 by Clear Channel Communications Inc., the U.S.'s biggest radio owner, with more than 1,200 stations, many of the country's most popular rock stations are firing controversial DJs, removing graphic content and debating just how far a penis joke can go. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission is finalizing about a dozen cases against shock jocks, including Howard Stern. Clear Channel Communications Inc. has recently launched its own pre-emptive strike. The company pulled Stern on February 25 from six stations after a caller made a comment about sex with black women.
