      The article discusses study by Champer and colleagues on the use of gene drive systems (GDSs). Topics discussed include use of GDSs for population control or disease suppression, discovery of a bacterial nuclease system CRISPR--Cas9 and variation among genetic backgrounds of Drosophila melanogaster in terms of acquiring resistance. It mentions breeding of heterozygote breeds as a homozygote, producing only CRISPR-Cas9±bearing gametes in case cell is a germ cell.
