    • Abstract:
Starting with a study of the ritual and symbolic aspects of the defenestration of 1618 in Prague, Bohemia, which incited the Thirty Years' War, the author considers how windows were used as sites of punishment, ceremony, and power in Early Modern Europe. Topics considered include political culture, Protestants in Catholic countries during the Reformation, and Emperor Matthias of the Habsburg monarchy of Austria.
