      En este trabajo se estudia la historia social del divorcio en el Distrito Federal entre 1900 y 1920, como parte del proceso de individuación en las relaciones de género. Se analizan tres procesos fundamentales: 1) el crecimiento de la práctica del divorcio al iniciar el siglo xx hasta convertirlo en una moda cultural; 2) la importancia de los extranjeros en dicha práctica, quienes ayudaron a difundir nuevas tendencias mundiales, y 3) los distintos procesos de individuación entre mujeres y hombres, ya que mientras ellas tramitaban el divorcio para conseguir su libertad económica, ellos comenzaron a promoverlo para quedar libres y volverse a casar.       This article studies the social history of divorce in Mexico City between 1900 and 1920 as part of the process of individuation in gender relations. Three main processes are analyzed: 1) the increase in the practice of divorce at the beginning of the twentieth century up to its change into a cultural fashion; 2) the importance of foreigners in this practice, since they helped spread new global trends; and 3) the different processes of individuation among women and men seeing that, while women petitioned for their divorce in order to gain economic freedom, men encouraged these processes in order to be free and able to remarry.
