- Alternate Title:
Evaluation of latex and vegetable extracts as insecticide against Culicidae. (English)
- Abstract:
In this study intended to verify the larvicidal activity of derived drugs and extracts obtained from vegetables. Therefore, samples of latex were collected of Euphorbia milii, Euphorbia pulcherrima e Tabernaemonta sp. and, in plus, with the method of Soxlet and the Process C of Brazilian Pharmacopeia, it was prepared extracts ethanolic and hydroalcoholic, consecutively of E. Milii. The culicids larvae were collected by making traps made of plastic bottles, identified by using specific identification key, after that it were separated in groups of 10, and put in test tubes, which were added the latex or the extracts tested at four different dilutions, namely 2.5 mg/mL 5 mg/mL 10 mg/mL and 20 mg/mL. Among the total number of collected larvae, namely 290 specimens, 95 were randomly selected for identification, predominantly Psorophora (37.9%) and Aedes aegypti (35.8%). It was observed that the latex and the ethanolic extract of E. milii and latex E. pulcherrima, at concentration of 20 mg/mL, showed 100% larvicidal activity against mosquitoes, thus demonstrating the potential use of these principles to control populations of these insects, particularly of A. aegypti, whereas the role in the transmission of dengue and other diseases, bringing the need for design of future research for the isolation and identification of active compounds, useful for planning new products with insecticide activity. - Abstract:
