    • Abstract:
In September of 1702, after being named Ambassador to France by Philip V, Juan Tomás Enríquez de Cabrera, XI admiral of Castile, fled to Portugal where he became the main supporter of the Austrian candidate to the Spanish throne. His decision led to the decline of the Enriquez de Cabrera family, which lost the preeminent position that had obtained thanks to the favour of the monarchs. In this paper we analyses the arguments that the XI admiral presented to justify his desertion and we bring to light new documentation on the confiscation of his properties in Madrid. • Abstract:
