      In the article, the author discusses the sociological considerations of prayer and agency in humans. Also cited are the concepts of prayer by authors William James as cited in his book "The Varieties of Religious Experience," and Marcel Mauss in his incomplete treatise "On Prayer," the scholarly studies showing that prayer is an indicator of religious participation and surveys of religious life in the U.S.
