The article presents information on the concept of refugee health as a social determinant of global health. Topics include the experience of a young Somali girl named Munira who was a refugee living in Minnesota, the lack of adequate literacy and health literacy among Somali refugees in the U.S., and the low priority status of preventive care for the refugees. It also discusses noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), mental health, and the nurse's role in the improvement of immigrant health care.
