      The article presents an analysis of the family life education manuals written by women for women in Spain during the second half of the 19th century. The author focuses on the paradoxical social role of women during that period, in which political rights were denied to them while being considered the main parties responsible for civic education and household administration. Other subjects discussed include social conditions of women, proper behavior expected for married women, and common structure of families.
