The authors discuss aspects of medicine and illness by reflecting on the advancement in the medical field and emphasizing the point that experiences with illness are always changing. They also comment on a person's decision making skills and rationality involved in it, and draw the point of illness being transformative as any other experiences. It is the authors' view that illness also change health care related factors including informed consent, risk assessment, and decision making.
