The Inevitability and Fortuitous of Politic Violence. Liberalism and the War of a Thousand Days. (English)
O inevitável e o imprevisível da violência política. O liberalismo e a Guerra dos Mil Dias. (Portuguese)

Where does political violence come from, and what has been the position of historians before it? This article contributes to said investigation, placing back together the way in which liberals founded an insurmountable hostility regarding the conservatives, which led them to see war as the only way to recover their predominance in the political arena and to undo the regeneration work. We carry out a detailed reconstruction of the attitude and the political notions underlying the actions of the liberals that allowed the most impatient of the group to impose over the rest of the party. Based on the aforementioned, we outline an interpretation of the violent answers that arose in the Colombian political scene. This outline, instead of conceding to fatalism, deals with understanding the conflict in the frame of democracy, where pluralism is both a characteristic and an issue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

¿De dónde emerge la violencia política y de qué manera se han situado ante ella los historiadores? Este artículo contribuye a esa indagación recomponiendo la manera como los liberales cimentaron una hostilidad insalvable respecto a los conservadores, la cual los llevó a ver solo la guerra como medio para recuperar su predominio en la arena política y deshacer la obra regeneradora. Al cabo de una reconstrucción detallada de la actitud y las nociones de lo político subyacentes a la acción de los liberales, y que permitieron a los más impacientes de ellos imponerse al conjunto del partido, se esboza una interpretación de las respuestas violentas levantadas en la escena política colombiana, la cual, en lugar de hacerle concesiones al fatalismo, se ocupa de comprender el conflicto en el marco democrático, donde el pluralismo siempre es tanto un carácter como un problema. Este artigo contribui para essa investigação recompondo a maneira como os liberais cimentaram uma hostilidade intransponível respeito dos conservadores, o que nos conduziu a ver apenas a guerra como meio para recuperar seu predomínio na arena política e desfazer a obra regeneradora. Após reconstrução detalhada da atitude e noções do político subjacentes à ação dos liberais, e que permitiram os mais impacientes se impor sobre o conjunto do partido, esboça-se uma interpretação das respostas violentas levantadas na cena política colombiana, que, em vez de fazer concessões ao fatalismo, se ocupa de compreender o conflito no quadro democrático, onde o pluralismo é sempre tanto um carácter quanto um problema.
