      The article discusses the program of U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop DARPA VTOL X-Plane. Topics include the commissioning of aeronautic systems provider Aurora Flight Sciences Corp. to develop the VTOL X-Plane with the capability to hover like a helicopter and can fly at high-speed. Also presented are the features of the unmanned aircraft, such as the use Rolls-Royce AE 1107C turboshaft engine, synchronous electric-drive system and tilt-canard-based propulsion.
