The article reports on a research on herbal dietary supplements to check for synthetic phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors using transmission-mode desorption electrospray ionization and mass spectrometry (TM DESI\MS). Topics discussed include dietary supplements do not need to undergo clinical trials to show safety, supplements were imported to lab to detect adulteration, using gradient elution with aqueous formic acid and acetonitrile and TM-DESI technique was able to detect virtual analytes.
