      A new cardenolide C34H52O12, m.p. 225-226 degrees C, [M+ -H] 651 (EIMS) was isolated from the acetone soluble fraction of the concentrated 90% ethanolic extracts of the seeds of Tamarindus indica (Linn.). It was identified as uzarigenin-3-O-beta-D-xylopyranosyl (1 -->2)- alpha-L-rhamnopyranoside (I) by different colour reactions, chemical degradations and spectral analysis.
