- Abstract:
This article describes the work of Phillip J. Bond, who has promoted nanotechnology within the executive branch of the United States government. From the time he was sworn into office in October 2001, Phillip Bond has been an outspoken public supporter of nanotechnology. Bond is particularly keen on making sure that the U.S. is prepared to blaze a trail in this new frontier that bridges the gap between basic science and applied technology. In his view, nanotechnology will become a key driver of economic growth and will promote the nation's leadership in technology, but the country will need to invest substantially in nanotech to realize that benefit. The Commerce Department supports research on nanotechnologies, mostly through the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
