      In this article, the authors analyse the different types of mathematical activities young learners engage in early years settings. Topics discussed include curriculum of mathematics in Swedish preschools; less research data available regarding type of mathematical activities undertaken in preschools; and ways to categorise mathematical activities and engage children in mathematics education.
