    • Abstract:
The article presents various books on animals. "Amazing Nature," by Tim Knight is a series that examines animal behaviors and adaptations that promote survival. From these titles, young researchers learn that animals use display as a form of communication, animals have adapted physically in order to eat the food in their habitats, animals fight for territory or to win a mate, and that animals migrate for survival. "Animal Camouflage," by Patricia Whitehouse, covers the concepts of camouflage, disruptive coloration, cryptic coloration, and mimicry in many ecosystems. Concepts are made clear through repetition of each idea and repeated examples using different animals throughout the particular environment. The photographs are large and attractive and clearly express the idea. Moving from one book — and ecosystem — to the next reinforces the ideas even more. Anne Hanson, Media Specialist, Mankato (Minnesota) Public Schools. On pages without photos or illustrations the text is dense and may not hold the attention of junior high students. However, for high school students searching for information about these six battles or biographical information about those involved, the series is a worthwhile addition to a school or public library collection. Tena Natale Litherland, Director of Upper and Middle School Library, Webb School, Knoxville, Tennessee.
