    • Abstract:
An essay is presented on the subject of communalism, or communitarianism, discussing the history of communal forms of living, attitudes of the wider public toward communalism, and the contemporary resurgence of interest in it. Topics include asset-based community development (ABCD), communal living as a way to meet the needs of people with mental illness, and examples of communal living such as the Hussites and other Christian communities, kibbutzim in Israel, and the Diggers in 17th-century England.
