- Abstract:
The Canadian government is hoping to boost its economy by expanding its R & D horizons. This article reports on the many options created by this generous increase in science funding and how Canada is leading the world in fuel cells. The government has set out its vision for innovation in industry and academic research. Its goals are to boost the economy by nurturing a more knowledge-based workforce, as well as to build a strong scientific and research environment. Historically, natural resources have been the basis of Canada's economy, so spontaneous clustering of research and industry has typically occurred around these resources: Arctic research in the north, forestry in British Columbia, oil and gas in Alberta, agriculture in Saskatchewan and fisheries in the Atlantic Provinces.
