      The article examines shop classes and their relevance in 21st-century education. Particular focus is given to how shop class can help children with hands-on and problem-based learning and design. Additional topics discussed include how 3D (Three Dimensional) printers might be utilized in a 21st-century shop class, the split between education of the mind through reading, writing and rhetoric and the education of the body, and insights on education by educator and advisor Booker T. Washington and the sociologist W.E.B. Du Bois.
