      The author discusses a maritime security discourse undertaken by Institute for Global Dialogue (IGD) to approach the challenging oceanic domain as a geostrategically Afrocentric global South arena of engagement. Topics discussed include the growing connectivity associated with interdependencies of global economic interaction and security challenges to international shipping in and around the Red Sea-Babel Mandeb-Suez complex that links the eastern Mediterranean to the northwest Indian Ocean.
