      The article discusses ethical aspects of the death penalty in light of its history and abolition in France. Topics include the use of the guillotine in France, the global use of the death penalty against vulnerable minority groups and foreigners, and the scale of mass incarceration in the U.S. The use of chemical solutions in U.S. state executions is addressed. The anticipated execution of convicted murderer Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is discussed.
