Chain and Metaphor: The Writer-Political Prisoner. (English)
    • Abstract:
This research is anchored in the historical and cultural context of artistic production of Jose Rizal, Isabelo de los Reyes, and Aurelio Tolentino who were detained as political prisoners. The study looks into the effect of their art to the country's political and cultural history as take-off point in understanding the intersecting relations of art, society and history. In analyzing the particular texts they wrote during detention or the reason behind their imprisonment, the study determined their alternative overview of the revolution, and the important role of art in documenting their experiences as prisoners. The research project details the diachronic and synchronic discourse of art as a political weapon according to the flow of history, particularly in terms of politicization of writers during the colonial period.
