- Abstract:
The chapter discusses the amendments to the U.S. Constitution. Women had no right to vote in America until the Nineteenth Amendment was passed in 1920. After the Civil War, the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution outlawed slavery. Following the ratification of the original document, the Bill of Rights as well as another 17 amendments would be added to the U.S. Constitution--evidence that the document produced during the summer of 1787 was a work in progress, essentially a blueprint for the laws of the U.S. and rights of U.S. citizens.
