- Abstract:
This article discusses changes made by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in its agenda in the U.S. as of 1991. The ACLU has always been the legal arm of the liberal-left, but only recently has it sought to impose its radical egalitarian politics on the private sphere. No longer content with affecting public policy, the ACLU has made a decisive shift away from traditional civil libertarian concerns toward a new agenda of legalizing collectivist economic programs. The ACLU talks about employer abuse, knowing full well that the Constitution was not designed as the all purpose elixir of injustice. It talks a lot about the rights of employees, but nary a word is ever mentioned about employee responsibilities. It talks a great deal about rights to a guaranteed income, but is noticeably silent on the question of their origin. It talks endlessly about protecting individual rights against government manipulation, but is in fact more interested in manipulating the government to advance its political agenda.
