The article looks at the major challenges facing the European Union (EU), including several years of economic crisis and Russia's increasing aggressiveness, and at the question of Great Britain's membership in the EU. The author proposes that the continental EU states form a full-fledged political and monetary union, modeled after the U.S. or the Anglo-Scottish union, with Great Britain leaving the EU in an amicable way, a plan he attributes to British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
