    • Abstract:
The article reports on the findings of a study conducted by researchers at the University of East Anglia (UEA) concerning the impact of the demand for natural rubber, fuelled by the tire industry, on biodiversity in protected areas of Southeast Asia. It reveals the negative impact of switching land use to rubber cultivation on soil, water availability, biodiversity and people's livelihoods. Also indicated are corporate efforts by Michelin Tire Co. and Bridgestone Corp. involving biodiversity.
