      This article focuses on the burlesque theater The Velvet Hammer, a varied sexual stripes in the U.S. The group comprises of several lesbians and bisexual women. Founded in 1995 by Michelle Carr a.k.a. Valentina Violette, the Los Angeles, California-based Velvet Hammer was born after many late-night visits to local strip clubs. While the Velvet Hammer may have been inspired by men's magazines, the troupe's history has always been intertwined with Los Angeles queer culture. Both gay and straight crowds are responding to the show. The show has played to audiences ranging from 500 early on to almost 1,200 at a recent performance at Los Angeles.
