    • Abstract:
This article focuses on the non-intentional learning of college students. In 1973, author's first year at University of California, Los Angeles, he didn't live in the dorms. He lived in small women's coop known as Stevens House. Women living in the Stevens House were different. For some reason Stevens House seemed to attract women who were generally traditional, quiet, studious, close to their families. Many were from Chinese American homes. A couple were from other countries. Many were from predominantly white, middle-class suburbs. Stevens House presented me with my first true experience of diversity -- a kind of diversity that certainly was influenced by the ethnic and cultural diversity of the inhabitants but that also went beyond ethnicity, beyond culture.
