      The article focuses on the advancement of synthetic biology to manufacture biofuels, biopharmaceuticals and industrial chemicals. Topics discussed include engineering bacteria caldicellulosiruptor bescii to produce ethanol from nonedible plant switchgrass, production of O-Succinyl-L-homoserine by engineering Escherichia coli and used in fermentation to yield butanediol and engineering of yeast Pichia pastoris with different protein expression levels to develop biopharmaceuticals.
