- Abstract:
The article discusses changes to the U.S. quarter dollar coin since it was first issued in 1932, focusing on how the degradation of the artwork on the coin could reflect the degradation of American civilization. Other topics include information on the original quarter artwork by relief sculptor John Flanagan, a discussion of how artistic aesthetics declined as the Roman Empire declined, and how technology has become more important in the minting process than aesthetics.
