Describes the Twyford Down road protest, the first in Great Britain during the 1990s. Discussion of why people fought against new roads and traffic growth; Focus on the 1989 white paper of the Tory government, 'Roads for Prosperity,' which announced a huge road-building program; Idea that the program was defeated when a government committee decided the way to ease traffic congestion and pollution is by controlling motor vehicle use; Discussion of air traffic and airport expansion and how it relates to the protests over the road-building program.
