This article reports that the city council of Seattle in Washington had voted to raise workers' minimum wage and minimum compensation (wages, plus tips and employer's contribution to health insurance). Topics discussed include the novelty of Seattle's law and the rise in minimum wages in 13 U.S. states and several municipalities on January 1, 2014. A study on the impact of minimum wage hikes on employment by William Wascher, David Neumark and J. M. Ian Salas is also referenced.
