The article reports on the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) chemical detection technique which is insensitive to optical properties of substrates. Topics mentioned include the standoff chemical-detection techniques that needs specialized measurement, the Michigan State University (MSU) researchers developed the SRS which borrowed methods from the highly chemical-specific coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) technology, and detection of solid explosives which has low vapor pressures.
