    • Abstract:
In this essay we aim to get familiar with the inner workings of godparenthood and spiritual kinship in the Cantabrian area during the Modern Ages, mainly through the analysis of Iguña Valley's parochial records along the XVIIth century. These data have been interpreted within the normative context created by the synodal constitutions of the archbishopric of Burgos, with the tridentine canons as a determinant background presence. The conclusions here noted are, first, the precocious assumption of the couple godfather-godmother tridentine model observed in this peripherical space, and second, the relevant role of godparenthood in the setting of patron-client networks. • Abstract:
