100 Books Before Graduation

100 Books Before Graduation is a brand new, fun, and free program through the Charleston County Public Library, encouraging teens in grades 9 through 12 to read 100 books before graduating from high school. Prizes will be awarded after reading 25, 50, 75 and 100 books. If you read 25 books each year of high school, you will read 100 books in total! (And yes, reading for school counts!) Are you up for the challenge?

Studies show that reading not only improves your vocabulary and writing skills, but reading can also provide stress relief, increase empathy, develop social skills, and expand world views. Not to mention that it’s a lot of fun!

  • 2) Track Your Reading
When you finish a book, add it to your list online or on your paper log.
  • 3) Earn Prizes
Prizes will be awarded at 25, 50, 75 and 100 books. When you reach a prize level, visit your local branch to collect your prize!

FAQs

Visit your local Charleston County Public Library for more information on 100 Books Before Graduation.

  • What if I start a book but don’t finish it?

As long as you give it an honest go (at least 1/3 of the book), you can log it! Life is too short to read books you don’t enjoy!

  • Can I reread books?

You can only log a book one time.

  • What’s in it for me?

While reading is its own reward, you’ll also earn prizes after reading 25, 50, 75, and 100 books.

  • What if I sign up when I’m in the 10th grade? Can I log books I read in 9th grade?

You can only log books you read after you register for the program.

  • What if I’m in 8th grade? When can I sign up? (Over summer?)

You can sign up the day you finish 8th grade!

  • Can I add books I have to read for school to the list of 100?

    Yup!

  • Do graphic novels count? Audiobooks?

Graphic novels, audiobooks, and ebooks all count toward your 100 Books Before Graduation goal.

  • Can I participate if I don’t have access to Beanstack?

Yes. We can help you create a Beanstack account, or we also have paper logs available at the library branches.

  • What if I finish 100 books quickly, for example, by 10th grade. Can I do the program over again and read another 100 books?

You can only participate in the 100 Books Before Graduation program once and be eligible to win prizes once, but you are welcome to keep reading and logging what you read on Beanstack FOREVER! It is a great record keeping resource.
