- Abstract:
The article presents the author's views on the genre of scary picture books for children. The categorization of children as a "weak" literary audience and people's concept of childhood as an age which our culture needs to protect are explored. The adult being more afraid than the child is investigated. Details are given for the books "Where the Wild Things Are," by Maurice Sendak and "Go Away, Big Green Monster!" by Ed Emberley.
